Mark 4:1 KJV
And
he began again to teach by the sea side: and there was gathered unto him a
great multitude, so that he entered into a ship, and sat in the sea; and the
whole multitude was by the sea on the land.
The process of teaching isn't something that is
accomplished in a moment or through some brief explanation of a thing.
Teaching, by its very nature, requires patience in repetition of a subject,
review of material already presented, an explanation relating to those
questions that come up and then building another layer upon what has been
grasped. The process of teaching requires not only a degree of mastery but a
kind of spirit willing to rehearse the one thing again and again until it is
mastered by the student.
We sometimes forget this in the field of teaching the
spiritual. We are so anxious to have success in our work that we often move on
to new subjects spiritually before the student has gotten hold of the subjects
we have previously given.
Bible teaching is line upon line precept upon precept here
a little there a little. It might sometimes appear that we have gotten
nowhere. Truth be told, it might sometimes seem like we have gone in reverse.
But slow, steady growth creates strong, consistent faith.
Teach again.
