The Genuine Mark of Separation

Exodus 33:16 KJV
For wherein shall it be known here that I and thy people have found grace in thy sight? is it not in that thou goest with us? so shall we be separated, I and thy people, from all the people that are upon the face of the earth.

One of Moses' primary concerns was that the Jews be separated from all the people upon the earth and how that was to be known. I notice:
It wasn't in their attitude toward others
The Jews developed an attitude not flattering to them as the people of God

It wasn't in their lifestyle
Although they were different in every part of their lifestyle: civil, religious, moral and personal

It wasn't in their refusal to intermarry
A command God gave to them that they were not good at obeying

But
It was to be in that God was with them.

If we walk with God (and not necessarily ask God to come along on our walks) a natural separation happens that has little or nothing to do with our actions toward others. Our fellowship with God; His presence becomes its own difference between us and others. We do not have to hate them avoid them or judge them. We only walk where God leads us and the rest takes care of itself.
