Titus 3:8 (KJV) Maintenance Program

Titus 3:8 (KJV)
This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men.
It is interesting that the Word of God makes it clear that the only ones the preacher needs press to good works are those which have believed in God.
  • No one else would likely listen to a preacher and
  • It would serve no saving purpose for anyone else to do it
The language of the text teaches that even the believer needs to be repeatedly reminded and provoked to good works.
The preacher is to “affirm constantly.”
It isn’t going to work to teach it just one time. Even if the student “gets it” the flesh will fail him unless he has renewed motivation.
Maintain good works
That word maintain implies: repair, restoration and constant upkeep. This must be a careful maintenance program. It must involve regular inspections, faithful corrections and constant polish and cleaning.
The Christian life simply cannot be one of ease. To do so will, without doubt, lead to slipping from those good works.
