Hebrews 12:1 (KJV)
Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

“Run with patience”

I ran a little cross-country in school. I wasn’t any good at it but I did it enough to know that, when running in a race, patience was not the top thing on a runner’s mind. They ran to win. They were competitive, pumped, psyched. In a long distance run the strategy involved patience. The runners paced themselves, saving something for a kick at the end. But the ultimate goal wasn’t patience; it was winning.

Strong’s concordance tells me that the Greek word means cheerfulness, endurance, hopefulness and constancy. The key to victory in the Christian life is constancy. You just keep doing it regardless. The key to constancy is hopefulness. The key to hopefulness is Jesus.

Hebrews 12:2
Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
