Proverbs 7:2 (KJV) The Apple of Thine Eye

Proverbs 7:2 (KJV)
Keep my commandments, and live; and my law as the apple of thine eye.

The phrase “Apple of the eye” is found five times in the Old Testament. The apple of the eye is the pupil. It is the most vulnerable and most precious piece of us. Our body is designed to protect it at almost any cost. The Bible use of the phrase is first, that God views Israel as the apple of His eye. It is His first love, if you will, in regard to humanity. He set His love on Israel because He chose to. But He did it for a specific purpose; to be an instrument through which Christ would come and thereby He would love the world.

Here we are told to see God’s law, the Word of God, as the apple of our eye. We are to choose to love it. We are to guard and protect it at all costs. But the reason we do so is not that we may hoard it to ourselves, but so we can give it to the world and thereby shed the love of God abroad.

To my readers:
