Psalms 147:10-11 (KJV) What Pleases God

Psalms 147:10-11 (KJV)
He delighteth not in the strength of the horse: he taketh not pleasure in the legs of a man.
The LORD taketh pleasure in them that fear him, in those that hope in his mercy.

The battle between the flesh and the Spirit is so real that it is difficult to reconcile passages such as this with what we know to be true, what we know must be true; that God blesses ingenuity, hard work, and industry. All who are on the ball believe Ben Franklin’s, “Early to bed, early to rise makes one healthy wealthy and wise.”

I do not advocate for laziness and slothfulness. I do not advocate for sleeping in and refusing to work. I am sure we ought to give and do our best. But the fact is doing our best is easily morphed into trusting our work.

God help us fight the flesh, fear the Lord, and hope in His mercy.
