Isaiah 5:2 (KJV)
And he fenced it, and gathered out the stones thereof, and planted it with the choicest vine, and built a tower in the midst of it, and also made a winepress therein: and he looked that it should bring forth grapes, and it brought forth wild grapes.
Whenever we use parables, especially Old Testament ones, for personal application, we have to remember that these are only personal applications. The vineyard in this parable is obviously the Jews and it is obviously a reference to their disobedience to the Lord. God did so much for them. He gave them every opportunity to flourish. Instead, they became wild. They rebelled against the Lord. They disobeyed His direction. They still claimed to be His people, they just weren’t the people He taught them to be.
A majority of Christians today could be considered wild grapes. They are saved. They are the children of God. They are just not what God taught them to be. They have mixed in so much of the world that they are of little use as the people of God. Still, they insist, they would be offended if ever it was implied that they are not the people of God.
It appears to me that the year 2020 could be a fulfillment of Isaiah 5:6. God is laying waste much of what is known as Christianity. Those who are wild grapes are being pruned out of good vineyards, I pray, to give room for those who will be good grapes.
It’s not enough to claim Christianity. God desires we be Bible believing, Bible practicing, Bible obeying Christians.
