Isaiah 55:2 (KJV) God’s Invitation

Isaiah 55:2 (KJV)

Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread? and your labour for that which satisfieth not? hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness.

I take this passage to be akin to the disparity between works and grace. Most of the Christian world indeed, most religion, is an attempt to buy favor with God. Some may not use actual money, most may not call the higher power God, but it is nonetheless their effort.

Whether in their minds it be:

  • Kismit
  • Karma or a form of
  • Deity

Either consciously or subconsciously they wish to earn the pleasure of that power and thus gain good fortune and happiness in the hereafter.

God simply asks them, “Why do you buy what isn’t the real thing?” He invites them, He invites you and me, to hear Him. He has for us that which is good, delightful, and fulfilling. We merely must accept it.
