But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.
This chapter provides another evidence of how few professing Christians even really believe the Bible.
Pastors get challenged all the time, at least I do, things like:
- Why do bad things happen to good people?
- If God is so powerful, why doesn’t he stop wars?
- I have prayed and God does not answer. Why?
This entire chapter is taken up with the answer. Verse one says, Isaiah 59:1 (KJV)
Behold, the LORD’S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear:
God is absolutely capable of hearing our prayers and answering them. The problem, according to this chapter, is on our side. He is not shortened but our sins have hidden His face from us.
- We don’t like that answer.
- We don’t believe that answer.
- We won’t accept that answer.
And that is our problem. Any time we will humble ourselves, surrender our will and call out to God, He is there to lift us and help us. Too often even in that, He answers and helps in a way we are not satisfied with, revealing that we never truly surrendered the rule of our lives.
He can.
We’ve stopped Him.
