And the seven angels which had the seven trumpets prepared themselves to sound.
I recently wrote about the rapture of believers to heaven before the Tribulation begins. In that piece, I referenced the trumpet sounding in 1 Thessalonians 4 and 1 Corinthians 15. One person commented that I should have applied that “last trumpet” to the seventh trumpet in Revelation. She argued that Paul would not have known about the seven trumpets since they were not revealed to John until decades later.
My response to her was that Paul is not the author but the penman. The Holy Spirit of God, who inspired Paul, certainly knew what He would later reveal to John some thirty years after He revealed the “last trumpet” to Paul.
I do not believe the seventh trumpet and the last trumpet are the same. The last trumpet takes place during the church age, while the seventh trumpet judgment occurs during the Tribulation, after the church age believers have been removed from the earth and the judgment of God.
Her interpretation would require the first six trumpet judgments to occur before the rapture of Christians, placing believers squarely in the middle of the Tribulation’s suffering. This interpretation does not align with the promises of God to deliver us from wrath, the payment Christ made on the cross to bear judgment on our behalf, or the divine purpose for the Tribulation’s judgments.
The last trumpet calls Christians to heaven before the Tribulation. The seventh trumpet judgment marks Christ’s return to earth at the end of the Tribulation.
