Luke 3:6. (KJV)
And all flesh shall see the salvation of God.
Recently, someone challenged me with the idea that the gospel message teaches everyone is already saved because of Jesus. His reasoning was simple: we are all sinners, Jesus died for all sinners, and therefore, all sinners must be saved.
I suppose he might use this verse as a proof text.
However, I would counter that the verse means all will have the opportunity to be saved—not that all will accept it. An opportunity offered is not the same as an opportunity accepted.
• All flesh shall see the salvation of God in the sense that the Word of God is preached around the world.
• All flesh shall see the salvation of God in the sense that the name of Jesus is known, even in some of the most remote places.
• All flesh shall see the salvation of God in the sense that no one who hears the gospel is beyond the reach of salvation.
• Ultimately, all flesh shall see the salvation of God in the sense that Revelation 1:7 (KJV) declares, “Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.”
The opportunity for salvation through Christ is open to all.
I pray that many more will accept it—and Him.
