Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;
But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:
I’ve written previously about the accusations others make concerning “religion.”
“There is a common accusation made against the children of God:
Our religion is all about money—‘silver and gold.’
It is true that there have been, and continue to be, charlatans who practice the faith for financial gain. However, compared to the countless pastors serving faithfully, the number of those made wealthy by so-called ministry is minuscule. Yet these few become infamous.
Or else,
Our religion is corrupt.
Just look at the history of Christianity: crusades, executions, indulgences, secret orders, etc. The perversions and corruptions of certain priests are also notorious.
Or else,
Our religion is mere vain conversation—just traditions and family culture.
Sadly, this is true for many. Religion is filled with people who neither understand nor examine why they believe as they do. Too many simply hope that never challenging what they have always been told will somehow be sufficient to earn them heaven.”
As terrible as it is that there have been so many “bad actors” in the history of the Christian religion, it does not change the fact that the blood of Christ is precious, without blemish and without spot.
Let God be true, and every man a liar.
I would go so far as to say that it is evidence of the grace of God that He would shed such precious blood on behalf of men so fallen that they would even abuse so precious a gift.
