1 Peter 4:2 (KJV)
That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.
I am intrigued by that phrase, “the rest of his time.” Before our salvation, there was “the time past of our life.” It is a clear distinction between what was prior to salvation and what comes after one is born again.
I was 18 when I was saved.
Many were much younger than I was.
Many others were much older.
That is irrelevant. For each of us who are children of God, there is a “time past of our life” and “the rest of our time.” What is relevant is how we use the rest of our time.
God’s Word urges us to live the rest of our time not according to the lusts of men, but according to the will of God.
It is heartbreaking to hear of those who do otherwise. I heard just recently of a man well known for his ministry who has fallen into unspeakable sin. My prayer is that this failure, no matter the consequences, will lead not to his walking away from God, but that he will, perhaps for the first time in his life, spend the rest of his time in the flesh seeking after God’s own heart.
