Jeremiah 50:31-32 (KJV) Thou Most Proud

Jeremiah 50:31-32 (KJV)
Behold, I am against thee, O thou most proud, saith the Lord GOD of hosts: for thy day is come, the time that I will visit thee. And the most proud shall stumble and fall, and none shall raise him up: and I will kindle a fire in his cities, and it shall devour all round about him.
The term “thou most proud” is meant more to identify these proud Babylonians, rather than to describe them. It is a title.
There is a difference between being proud of something or someone and being labeled “thou most proud.” This is one consumed, not in confidence, but in self. Perhaps the best illustration is Antichrist, of whom the Bible says,
2 Thessalonians 2:4
Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.
He isn’t trying to show anyone else. He likely doesn’t care about anyone else. He only seeks to satisfy himself that he has arrived at this highest station of all.
God is against this sort of pride. God will visit it in judgment and, in His own time, the “most proud” will stumble and fall.
