Micah 3:11 (KJV) Difficult Days

Micah 3:11 (KJV)
The heads thereof judge for reward, and the priests thereof teach for hire, and the prophets thereof divine for money: yet will they lean upon the LORD, and say, Is not the LORD among us? none evil can come upon us.
Micah preached in difficult days, nearing the end of what would be the heyday of ancient Israel. Some would say their heyday had passed. Three offices are examined and condemned:
The princesOr heads of state.
The priestsOr representatives of religion.
The prophetsOr those who are supposed to be spokesmen for God.
The commonality in each condemnation is money. These positions ought to be examples of high character. These are the ones who should do their work for the good of the people. But look. They have degenerated their offices into mere jobs. They do what they do for hire and not for good.
Perhaps we could understand this if they were for profit businessmen. They are not.
We too live in the last days. I believe we have long crossed the threshold of our heyday. We see the same problem among those who serve today:
  • Government officials who seek wealth
  • Christian professors who use faith for advantage and
  • Preachers of every denomination who serve to get gain
God help us to hear the warning and repent.
