Micah 1:5 (KJV)
For the transgression of Jacob is all this, and for the sins of the house of Israel. What is the transgression of Jacob? is it not Samaria? and what are the high places of Judah? are they not Jerusalem?

Astonishing!
Judah had turned the very center of godly worship into an idolatrous place, even the place where Christ was crucified. That which should have pointed the way to eternity became the very obstacle to it.
The lesson is a sobering one. We have within us the capability of turning the very things of God into idols detestable to God. Those gifts God gave to point us to salvation and build us in our most holy faith may, if not guarded against, become stumbling stones over which we cannot make our way to salvation.
- Corrupting the Bible to make it more palatable to the academic mind
- Changing church to make it more friendly to the lost
- Converting preaching into self help lessons
These and a host of other offenses have turned what was the heart of godliness into the seat of unholiness.
