2 Chronicles 20:33 (KJV) Whatever Else Is True…

2 Chronicles 20:33 (KJV)
Howbeit the high places were not taken away: for as yet the people had not prepared their hearts unto the God of their fathers.
Joseph Benson’s commentary has this insightful statement concerning our passage, “…though they did worship the true God, yet would not be confined to the temple; but, for their own convenience, or from their affection to their ancient customs, chose to worship him in the high places.”
How often is it that we worship God but will not be confined to those things He teaches us in the Bible! I think I see it more often now than at any other time in my Christian life.
  • People who claim faith but reject church
  • People who claim faith but challenge doctrine
  • People who claim faith but question the Bible
  • People who claim faith but also embrace worldly philosophies
  • People who claim to be saved but also to be agnostics or even atheists
The Bible calls this out for what it is; they have not prepared their hearts unto the Lord.
Whatever else may be true of them, they do not have a heart for God.
