2 Chronicles 21:20 (KJV)

Thirty and two years old was he when he began to reign, and he reigned in Jerusalem eight years, and departed without being desired. Howbeit they buried him in the city of David, but not in the sepulchres of the kings.

2 Chronicles 22:2 (KJV)

Forty and two years old was Ahaziah when he began to reign, and he reigned one year in Jerusalem. His mother's name also was Athaliah the daughter of Omri.

2 Kings 8 says Ahaziah was 22 years old when he began to reign. It would be impossible for him to have been 42 since his father died at age 40. Frankly, since the Bible says he was the youngest of his father’s children, 22 would even be a stretch. 

Here is one of those places where critics claim we have a copier’s error. There are a few suggestions as to how to reconcile this. One is to claim he began to reign in the 42nd year of the dynasty of Omri[1] It is also possible to suggest that he “took over” in his father’s stead at age 22 but was not crowned king in his own right until 42. For what reason, I do not know. 

In cases such as this I reserve the position that God knew what He meant and I may not fully comprehend it until I get to heaven. God’s Word, I am by faith sure of, has no errors.
