Luke 17:1 (KJV)
Then said he unto the disciples, It is impossible but that offences will come: but woe unto him, through whom they come!

I think we get this passage all wrong. We focus on what we should do about the offender when we ought to focus on not being him.

Offenses happen in this world. I am not excusing them. I am not making light of them. I merely accept what the Bible says about them. It is impossible to live without offenses coming our way:

• In word
• In action 
• Emotionally
• Physically and
• Spiritually 

It is a fact, offenses will come.

But we do not have to be offended at the offenses. We can choose always to forgive. We can live in such a state of fellowship with God that the offenses are the furthest of our concerns.

I think the passage indicates what is of more concern is our propensity to be the offender. We are of such corrupt natures, so conformed to this world that, without taking proactive steps to prevent it, our response to an offense is offensive in itself.

It’s just better to give offenses to the Lord and live rather in a state of contentment.
