Mark 8:7 (KJV)
And they had a few small fishes: and he blessed, and commanded to set them also before them.
This passage is one of two where Jesus blessed the bread. In the first, there was a boy with loaves and fishes. In this one, they began with the loaves and later added the fishes.

And when he had taken the five loaves and the two fishes, he looked up to heaven, and blessed, and brake the loaves...
Here:
- The loaves and fishes are presented together from the beginning.
- Jesus takes both together before blessing and distributing them.
- The source of the food is the boy (mentioned in John 6:9).

...he took the seven loaves, and gave thanks, and brake...
And they had a few small fishes: and he blessed, and commanded to set them also before them.
Here the sequence is different:
- Jesus first takes the seven loaves.
- He gives thanks for the bread, and it is distributed.
- Then it is noted that they had a few small fishes.
- Jesus blesses the fishes and commands that they also be distributed.
My thought is this: There is always something more.
Whenever we find ourselves in a place of need or want, we tend to focus on what we don't have rather than on what we do have. We tend to focus on the need rather than on the resources.
Spiritually, we are always in need. Religious people will sometimes pretend otherwise. Philosophers and those in academia will often boast otherwise. Wealthy and powerful people in the world will attempt to prove otherwise. But everyone is spiritually impoverished. The lost are dead in trespasses and sins. The saved know that without Christ they can do nothing. It is therefore easy for us to face an obstacle while focusing on our lack rather than on our resources.
Take, for instance, the call of God into the ministry. When a person is first presented with the idea that the Lord may be calling him, he begins with a sense of inability, loss, and need. He knows he is spiritually incapable of answering the call. But if God calls, he gives what he believes he has.
Then God blesses what he gives.
What happens next?
He realizes there is something else to give.
As weak as we know we are, the Lord has endowed each of us with certain gifts and abilities that, when surrendered to Him, can become mighty in His hands. We might hesitate to offer them, thinking they are insignificant or useless. We may think so little of them that we never think to offer them at all.
What I want to say is this: There is always something more we can give to God. Once we realize what the Lord can do with little, He begins to open our eyes to the many pockets of "little" that we possess.
There is always something more.
