Jesus Gives the Right Answer for Every Need

Mark 7:30 (KJV)

And when she was come to her house, she found the devil gone out, and her daughter laid upon the bed.

I’m reminded of several different passages:

“I say unto thee, arise.” — Mark 5:41

“Sitting, clothed, and in his right mind.” — Mark 5:15

“Take up thy bed, and walk.” — John 5:8

Circumstances call for differing responses. In one instance, it is appropriate to arise. In another, it is most appropriate to be laid upon the bed. They are opposite actions, yet they mean the same thing because they come from the same source.

The man who had never gotten up was thrilled to leap from his bed. The daughter, who had been racked by the torment of devils, was relieved simply to lie down in peace and rest. Jesus was the reason for both.

None of us faces exactly the same situations or circumstances in life. For that reason, I am thankful that our God is not a machine that can do only one thing or another. He is a living Person. He is aware, cognizant, and more than capable of matching the answer to the need.

• The God of the inner city is the same God as the God of the rural community.
• The God of Western cultures is the same God as the God of the Eastern world.
• The God who saves souls in industrialized nations also saves souls on remote islands.

Our God is not confined by our limitations or resources. He is not bound by our prejudices or preconceived notions. To be sure, He is not "all things to all men" in the sense that we can make Him whoever we wish Him to be. He is the standard.

Yet He can reach all people, in all places, at all times, by whatever means He pleases.
