John 14:31 (KJV) Arise, Let Us Go Hence

John 14:31 (KJV)

But that the world may know that I love the Father; and as the Father gave me commandment, even so I do. Arise, let us go hence.

John Gill places Jesus at this time, not in the upper room where the Lord’s Supper was instituted, but in Bethany. He claims that they leave Bethany at this time, that the events leading to the Lord’s Supper are left unrecorded in John’s Gospel, and that it must have taken place between chapters fourteen and fifteen, where Jesus speaks of the vine and the branches.

I can’t say one way or the other.

What I can say is that Jesus knew what would befall Him. He was willingly obedient to the will and plan of God the Father and here engages His disciples: “Arise, let us go hence.”

• Arise, let us go to do the will of God.
• Arise, let us go in absolute obedience to God.
• Arise, let us go motivated by love for God.
• Arise, let us go as evangelists in the name of God.
• Arise, let us go regardless of the cost.
• Arise, let us go for the purpose of seeking and saving the lost.
• Arise, let us go hence.

Arise, Let Us Go Hence:: Faith That Moves Us Forward

Arise, Let Us Go Hence!

Jesus knew the cost of obedience, yet He willingly followed His Father's will. Now the question is, are we willing to do the same?

Don't just admire Christ's obedience. Follow His example! Take that next step of faith, whatever the cost.
