1 Chronicles 17:20 KJV
O LORD, there is none like thee, neither is there any God beside thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears.
It was with a great heart that David made this statement before the Lord. David had had it in his mind to build a house for the Lord but God's will was for that project to be deferred to David's son.
The passage is one of unimaginable promise for David's family and he recognizes it for the enormous blessing that it is. Not only would David have a kingdom, but God's plan was that David's family sit on the throne forever. This promise is ultimately fulfilled in the Lord Jesus Christ.
David's heart of praise rises to the Lord and he exclaims, "O LORD, there is none like thee, neither is there any God beside thee..."David would still have battles to fight
David would have close colleagues turn against him
David would suffer the heartbreak of children gone wrong
David would even still need to be confronted with sin
But in the end, it was of his family that the Saviour of the world did come.
And there is none like our Saviour!
What wonderful promises are ours who are His. We do not always get to build after our own heart and wishes; but God's plan for us is so much greater than we can ever dream.
