Such Were Some of You

1 Corinthians 6:11 KJV
And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.
This passage sets us up to understand just how wonderful it is to be saved.

Verses 9-10 Reminds us that sinners cannot inherit the kingdom of God.
The list of sins that would exclude a person from heaven is broad enough that most of us would be guilty of something on the list or akin to it. I can sense a pounding heart from the first readers. They know this passage is meant to mean them

Verse 11 then says, "And such were some of you..."
So if any of us missed the point of verses 9 and 10, the first phrase of verse 11 hits us between the eyes. No mistaking it. Paul means us. We have all committed sins vile enough to exclude us from heaven.

But then comes the sweet release....
...But ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus....

All of that sin, all of that wickedness, all of that which would keep us from heaven has been washed away in the name of the Lord and by the Spirit of our God! Wow! Amen! Praise God I have a home in heaven! God knows what I have done and God Himself has washed me clean of it.
