Ecclesiastes 3:11 KJV
He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end.
Clark writes concerning this, "...the meaning is, that God hath set before the minds of men, and in them, the whole world of creatures, the whole book of nature, in which they may see and read much of the wisdom power, and goodness of God in his works; and to some he gives an inclination and desire hereunto; but yet the subject before them is so copious, there is such a world of matter presented to them, and their capacity so small, and life so short, that they cannot all their days find out the works of God, either of creation or providence, to perfection; or find out what God works, from the beginning of the world to the end of it; for, of what he has wrought, but a small portion is known by them, and they know less still what shall be done hereafter..."
The word translated world can also mean eternity. God has placed within each of us the capacity to see Him and to know we are eternal beings just by observing the things that are in the world. We cannot attain to eternity just in the things we see and can learn from the world, but we can see our need to seek eternity from the things we see in the world.
I do not, as a witness for Jesus Christ, have to convince a man that there is an eternal destiny for each man. It is obvious. Our heart tells us it is so each time we look out at the world our God has created. But what a man cannot know, unless someone tells him, is what will be his end. That can only be passed from faith to faith. One man, having received faith from God, must go and pass that faith to another man.
My job is to show people Jesus. I do not have to show them;
God,
The devil,
Heaven or hell.They already know those are a reality because their heart tells them so. God hath "set [that] world in their heart." I only have to show them how to have an eternity in heaven and not hell.
God make me faithful in doing that.
