1 Kings 11:9-10
And the LORD was angry with Solomon, because his heart was turned from the LORD God of Israel, which had appeared unto him twice,
And had commanded him concerning this thing, that he should not go after other gods: but he kept not that which the LORD commanded.
1 Kings 11:39
And I will for this afflict the seed of David, but not for ever.
I can't help but think of1 Corinthians 10:12
Wherefore, let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.
Solomon had as much going for him as any man could have. Besides the example and training of his father, God had appeared to him twice AND had given him incredible wisdom. Solomon made the mistakes he did with eyes wide open, yet he was still blinded into sin.
If Solomon could fall in the ways he did we can be sure the same could happen to us all. And it makes it that much more important that we,
Matt 26:41
Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: ..... (KJV)
And then, there is this wonderful consolation I find in the very same chapter. Though Solomon willfully sinned against the Lord; and though God determined to bring judgment because of it, still the Lord said, "... but not forever."
There is, in almost every page of God's Word, some promise of grace and mercy. Praise God that, though He judges, when we come to Jesus Christ, that judgment is "not forever."
