Colossians 3:1-2 KJV
If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.
Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
It isn't impossible to see these two verses as conditional to being risen with Christ. If it is true that you are risen with Christ, then you affections will be on things above.
Jonathan Edwards wrote a huge piece in his day on the subject of "Religious Affections." It is difficult to think that the one who is born again, redeemed out of the sin of this world and is now seated together with Christ in heavenly places, would have much interest in the paltry and petty attractions that are of this world.
The one who has risen with Christ has been made a live to see new things; things in the heavenlies. This that are invisible and unimaginable to worldlings . As the sun arises to illuminate the new morning, so the child of God has arisen and Christ has illuminated beauties that yet lie in darkness to those who have not Christ.
That which attracts a man defines that man. The sow must eventually go to her wallow. The dog will, of his nature return to his vomit. The worldling cannot help but be attracted to the things on the earth. And those who are risen with Christ will find they are drawn away from the pleasures of the world and into heavenly delights.
