2 Timothy 4:5 KJV
But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.
"...make full proof of thy ministry."
The ministry is not something to be done lightly or as a hobby. The man in the ministry ought to fully immerse himself in it.
This is not to say he may not work a secular type job as needed in order to provide for his family. It is to say that even in that work he ought to do it as a function and part of his ministry.
The cause of the gospel ought to be his heart and passion.
The work of the ministry ought to occupy his very being.
Whatever else he may be engaged in
Wherever he might find himself to be
He is in the ministry.
He is called of God.
He has a charge and commission.
Let nothing distract him from that calling!
