2 Chronicles 23:16 KJV
And Jehoiada made a covenant between him, and between all the people, and between the king, that they should be the LORD'S people.
Jehoiada, the king and all the people covenanted that they should be the Lord's people. This despite the fact that they are already
• The children of God through Abraham and in their case
• The obedient to God through David's throne.
Still, they had gone through a nearly seven year period with no king and a wicked queen. As they removed her and re-established David's throne they felt the necessity of such a covenant.
Though we are saved and even though we may faithfully attend the house of the Lord, there will come times in our lives when we need to reconfirm our relationship to Christ.
• Periods of dullness creep up in us spiritually.
• Times of dryness come when we are not where we ought to be in our walk with the Lord
and to come to the altar of the Lord and covenant once again to walk with him; that would be a grand thing.
The king got mixed up with the wrong crowd when Jehoiada died and broke his covenant. It reminds me that my associations, especially in times of change, need to be carefully watched lest I be pulled away from my covenants with the Lord.
