Proverbs
7:5 KJV
That they may keep thee from the strange woman, from the stranger
which flattereth with her words.
I am sure I am not the first to
notice the contrast between the strange woman of chapter seven and wisdom in
chapter eight. Both call out to young men but:
- One leads to destruction and then
other to life
- One catches the young man, the
other must be caught
- One offers a sense of beauty the
other is beautiful
- One seems religious enough the
other is the very knowledge of God
There are two ways to see this
contrast:
First view them as literal women
A young man is wise to look for
the woman to marry who is the embodiment of spiritual wisdom rather than who is
decked with tapestry and perfume.
Second view them both as having a spiritual type
False religion may be beautiful
on the outside but her house is the way to hell. True faith is not as
glamorous, but it is faithful, healthful and leads to eternal life.
