John 13:33 KJV
Little
children, yet a little while I am with you. Ye shall seek me: and as I said
unto the Jews, Whither I go, ye cannot come; so now I say to you.
There is a prophecy of doom and also of
hope in this passage. Jesus told the disciples that He would be removed from
them shortly. There was of course great pain in the loss and also in the way of
the loss. The disciples had such hopes and expectations as followers of Christ
and their loss of Him meant also the loss of those dreams. Then in the horrific
way of Christ’s death would be a foreboding of their own fates. Such ugly
hatred would surely be inherited of His disciples in this world.
The passage though gives this ray of
hope; they would seek Him. And though they could not follow Him then, they
would be reunited with Him again.
That action of seeking Him gives rise to
the energy and explains the influence of the Lord these two thousand years
later. Christ has changed the lives of men and women all of this time because,
in seeking Him, we never cease to expect to see Him. He is coming again.
·
As we seek His return,
we are changed in the seeking
·
As we are changed,
others begin seeking Him with us and
·
As they begin seeking, are
changed as well
