No Reason to Stay

John 20:10-13 KJV
Then the disciples went away again unto their own home.
But Mary stood without at the sepulchre weeping: and as she wept, she stooped down, and looked into the sepulchre,
And seeth two angels in white sitting, the one at the head, and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain.
And they say unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? She saith unto them, Because they have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid him.

The disciples just went home but Mary stayed and because she stayed saw both the angels and the Lord.

There is something to be said for waiting. Our days are so filled with activity that sitting down to
  • Be still
  • Be quiet and
  • To wait
almost never happens. We have built into our brand of Christianity a model that dislikes stillness. We are people of
  • Events
  • Programs and church
  • Activities
Yea, we regard those whose ministries are quiet as losers in the realm of the Spirit.

Mind you, there was no reason for the disciples to stay. They had come and seen what was important. Verily, the tomb was empty. Mary had no reason to wait around. She had no expectation of greater blessings for waiting. Still she tarried. And because she tarried she enjoyed the visitation of the angels and of the Lord.

The trouble with tarrying is that we will never know for what we tarry or for how long. But that is also the blessing. We must stop placing expectations upon these things and simply begin to practice them.

The Lord will do the rest.
