Romans 2:28-29 KJV
For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision,
which is outward in the flesh:
But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the
heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of
God.
What is it that makes a person who he is?
- Is
it his birth and heritage?
- Is
it his education and background?
- Is
it his locale and peers?
God said that the Jew is not a Jew for any of
these.
- He
was born of Jewish blood
- He
was raised in the Jewish land
- He
was educated in the Jewish tradition
But none of these made him who God created him to
be.
A Jew was a Jew when his heart belonged to God.
So is it true with the faith of the Christian.
- One
is not a Christian because he grew up in a certain place or because his
parents brought him up under a particular persuasion
- One
is not a Christian because he has knowledge of a certain set of doctrines
or because he attends a particular congregation
A man is a Christian when his heart is given to the
faith of Christ. When we belong to Jesus Christ in our affections, then we can
know our faith is the saving kind.
