2 Corinthians 7:1 KJV
Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved,
let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit,
perfecting holiness in the fear of God.
Barnes writes,
“The
unceasing and steady aim of every Christian should be perfection - perfection
in all things - in the love of God, of Christ, of man; perfection of heart, and
feeling, and emotion; perfection in his words, and plans, and dealings with
people; perfection in his prayers, and in his submission to the will of
God."
- The fact that no man but Christ is perfect
is no excuse
- The fact that none will make perfection in
this world cannot lessen the responsibility
Perfection
is the aim. Praise God that entire perfection is a work finished by the Holy
Spirit. But praise God too that He blesses the believer with this purpose in the
time of our life.
- We have an holy aim
- We have a worthy cause
- We have a meaningful labor
Perfecting
our holiness.
