1 Timothy 1:18 KJV
This charge I
commit unto thee, son Timothy, according to the prophecies which went before on
thee, that thou by them mightest war a good warfare;
Those weapons Timothy
possessed for warfare were more than those listed in Ephesians six, but here
include those prophecies that had gone before him. By these prophecies are
meant not the prophecies of the Old Testament, which he will surely use in the
battle, but those good reports that had been made of the brethren early in
Timothy's life. Outside of the Word of God, and those doctrines it gives us,
the best resources we have in our conflict is our personal testimony and our
steady faith in Jesus Christ. Every soldier will have the sword and shield.
The difference will always
lie in how the individual uses them
- Will he stay in line
- Will he value the
cause more than life
- Will he surrender his
own will to the captain
These are the things that
make for good warfare.
