Exodus 40:35 KJV
And Moses was not able to enter into the tent of
the congregation, because the cloud abode thereon, and the glory of the LORD
filled the tabernacle.
I know I am
pressing this issue with this verse to say that the glory of the Lord was
something of enough substance that there was no room for Moses inside the
tabernacle once the glory of the Lord had filled it. Gill and others write that
it is rather that Moses would not enter rather than could not enter because of
the glory. They say that he who had entered into the presence of God in times
past durst not enter now without the invitation of God.
God is a spirit
and I am quite sure these interpretations are meritorious because of that. But
I also see Jesus Christ as being the glory of God embodied and, though the
incarnate Christ would not have so filled the room as to leave to space for
Moses, still I would suggest that the glory of God is more than an idea a
perception or a manifestation. There is
- Something real about
it
- Something solid
- Something that is more
than blind faith
It is
substantive. To enter into the glory of God is to feel the weight of His
presence. Wonderful no doubt; but bearing such force as to insist upon some
distance.
And yet the
Bible assures us that through Jesus Christ we may come boldly to the throne of
Grace.
We have the
invitation Moses awaited.
