Romans 7:23 KJV
But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.
The Apostle was not afraid to frankly speak about the difficulties he had with the law of sin in his flesh. He said it often confused him so that the good that he would he did not and the evil that he would not he did. He said that it frequently brought him into captivity to the law of sin. He said he saw no escape, no deliverance except through Jesus Christ.
- There was no self-help program
- There was no medical cure
- There was no plan of action he could take
That would assure him victory in his war against the law of sin in his flesh. His hope was and would always be Jesus Christ.
But this does not mean Paul gave in to the enemy. This is not a document of surrender. He used the word "warring" in a present continuous tense. This fight still raged on. And though in the book of Philippians he says he had not yet attained his victory. We know from II Timothy that he fought a good fight until Jesus gave him that victory in the end.
There is only one victor, it is Jesus. But there is yet a command to fight. Surrender to this enemy is no option.
Let the war against sin continue.
