Chronicles 32:8 KJV
With him is an arm of flesh; but with us is the LORD our God to
help us, and to fight our battles. And the people rested themselves upon the
words of Hezekiah king of Judah .
Under
such incredible pressure as facing the Assyrians, the nation that had defeated
nearly every nation neighboring Judah ,
including annihilating the northern kingdom of Israel , Hezekiah was able to
comfort the people so that they rested themselves upon his words. What made his
words so powerful?
Hezekiah did what was right in the sight of
the Lord
2
Chronicles 29:2 KJV
And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD,
according to all that David his father had done.
Hezekiah walked according to those things
David had done
2
Chronicles 29:2 KJV
And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD,
according to all that David his father had done.
Hezekiah had a track record of leading the
nation in godliness
2
Chronicles 29:3-5 KJV
He in the first year of his reign, in the first month, opened the
doors of the house of the LORD, and repaired them.
And he brought in the priests and the Levites, and gathered them
together into the east street,
And said unto them, Hear me, ye Levites, sanctify now yourselves,
and sanctify the house of the LORD God of your fathers, and carry forth the
filthiness out of the holy place.
Hezekiah’s prayers had been previously
answered
2 Chronicles 30:17-20 KJV
For there were many in the congregation that
were not sanctified: therefore the Levites had the charge of the killing of the
passovers for every one that was not clean, to sanctify them unto the LORD.
For a multitude of the people, even many of
Ephraim, and Manasseh, Issachar, and Zebulun, had not cleansed themselves, yet
did they eat the passover otherwise than it was written. But Hezekiah prayed
for them, saying, The good LORD pardon every one
That prepareth his heart to seek God, the LORD
God of his fathers, though he be not cleansed according to the purification of
the sanctuary.
And the LORD hearkened to Hezekiah, and healed
the people.
They
had every reason to trust Hezekiah because Hezekiah had proven to them that he
trusted the Lord.
The
one best able to comfort us when we are in any trouble is the one we have
watched walk with God before there was trouble.
