2 Timothy 4:18 KJV
And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
Paul ascribes glory and praise to the Lord for two things:
- For delivering him from every evil work
- For preserving him unto His heavenly kingdom
The two are closely related because he would come unto that heavenly kingdom through execution. Paul's deliverance from the evil work was through death by the hands of ungodly men whose attempt was to stifle the spread of the Gospel. His preservation unto God's heavenly kingdom was through grace to stand for Christ through such an evil day.
God is glorious in whatever His plan is for our lives.
- Sometimes it is to deliver us from trials
- Sometimes it is to preserve us through them
But in every case it can and should be said, "to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen."
