The Power of the Word

Jeremiah 23:21-22 KJV
I have not sent these prophets, yet they ran: I have not spoken to them, yet they prophesied.
But if they had stood in my counsel, and had caused my people to hear my words, then they should have turned them from their evil way, and from the evil of their doings.

God calls specific persons to specific ministries. Sometimes people take it upon themselves to take up rolls that God has not called them to. It was so with these who assumed the roll of prophet when god had not sent them. They were not here excused for running where God had not placed them. They were in the wrong. But the worse of it is that they not only presumed the roll, but they misused the function.
  • They did not obey His counsel
  • They did not give the people God's words

If they had at least been truthful with the Word of God people could have profited from their work. As it was, they disobeyed and the people were the worse for it.

We have here an evidence of the power of the Word of God.
  • The disobedient Christian
  • The backslidden believer even
  • The lost and carnal man

can be a spiritual profit to others if they give people the Word of God. It does not excuse their condition nor does it win them points with God. but it will profit those who hear.
