Daniel 3:25
He
answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire,
and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.
Four men loose
The three Hebrews were free men.
Though the king had commanded
them to bow before his image and, though everyone else had obeyed him, these
three remained true to their:
· Convictions
· Principles
and
· God
Governments can force the body
but they can never bind the spirits of men whose faith is in God.
Gill points out that, once
bound and cast into the furnace, these men saw no hurry to come out. So free
from the cares of this world were they that they walked about in the midst of
the furnace as if it were a garden.
But Nebuchadnezzar had only cast in three men.
There was a fourth man who had
joined them in the fire of his own free will. No, it was not Daniel whom, I can
only surmise, must have been away on some business. The king said the fourth
man was like the Son of God. Indeed it is Christ, he had come to join them in
their worship of the true and living God and in their walk for and with God.
Every man is free who walks
with Christ.
