Luke 6:11-12 KJV
And they
were filled with madness; and communed one with another what they might do to
Jesus.
And it came
to pass in those days, that he went out into a mountain to pray, and continued
all night in prayer to God.
They say that, given his
medical training, Luke's gospel is likely the most correct sequence of events
in Christ's life. Everything in every gospel is infallible and accurate but
that doesn't mean that every gospel writer attempted to place things in the
correct chronological order. Luke was the most likely one to have done that,
especially since he began by saying he wanted to "put in order" these
things.
Considering order then, what
a thing it was for the Apostles to have been selected after the Pharisees have
already grown angry with Christ and were speaking with each others to determine
what they could do about Him.
The apostles had no allusion
that being selected as an apostle would be a promotion of earthly proportions.
They were becoming the most identified followers of Christ just as Christ was
being identified as an enemy to the status quo of Israel.
· He told them they would be hated
· He told them they would persecuted
· He told them they would not be rich but
· He told them they would be blessed
His blessing is worth far
more than any earthly comfort.
