Luke 2:10-12
And the
angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great
joy, which shall be to all people.
For unto you
is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
And this
shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes,
lying in a manger.
I am certain that the
Christian ought always have his eyes fixed upon the Lord. To gaze long at anything
on this world is sure to bring discouragement
and distress. To have our eyes set
upon the Lord is a solid recipe for hope
and for peace of heart and soul.
But would you notice where
the focus of heaven is at the moment of Christ's birth? The Angels came to
speak to these shepherds in the field instead of to view the Saviour in
the manger. These Angels had three presentations to give to the shepherds:
· Tidings of great joy
· A Saviour, born in the stable and
· A sign to confirm that He is the Christ
If we think of these
shepherds as being ordinary people then we may view these presentations as
belonging to each of us (so long as we are ordinary people).
The reason our eyes can be so
firmly set on God is because His eyes are so firmly set on us.
