Exodus 25:21 KJV
And thou
shalt put the mercy seat above upon the ark; and in the ark thou shalt put the
testimony that I shall give thee.
This
verse as well as verse 16 calls the two tables comprising the Ten Commandments
as given to Moses by God, "the testimony that I shall give thee."
Verse 22 alludes to the same.
There
are, I suppose, thousands of testimonies in the world.
· Men have
testimonies
· Nations have
testimonies
· Regions have
testimonies
· Political parties
have testimonies
· Religions have
testimonies
It
is the result of their character and of their record.
God
gave Moses His testimony because this was the nature of the character God
desired them to have. His was a testimony that, if Israel would embrace it,
would give them a record unique to anyone in the world. It is a testimony that
has been accepted (if not altogether obeyed) by every civilized people since.
His testimony influences governments, leaders and individuals around the world.
We
may build our own record, our own testimony but the wisest of us will accept
the one that God has given us.
