Numbers 22:12 KJV
And God said
unto Balaam, Thou shalt not go with them; thou shalt not curse the people: for
they are blessed.
Among the many strange things
we can learn from Balaam is that a believer can take the Word of God to the
wrong place. Balaam clearly was not to go to Balak. His own double mindedness
took him where he never belonged. Though Balaam never did "curse"
Israel as Balak desired him to do, Balaam's compromising nature provided him
with a plan that caused Israel to bring a curse upon themselves.
A principle we should all
take to heart is to never curse what God has blessed. It is possible to do it.
· By running it down verbally,
· By attacking it socially or
· By introducing into it compromise.
In the end Israel survived
and Balaam is the one whose ruined reputation is that of selling out his faith
for temporary reward.
