1 Thessalonians 5:12-13 (KJV)
And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you;And to esteem them very highly in love for their work’s sake. And be at peace among yourselves.

The Bible presses the believer toward two actions regarding their pastor:
To know themThis of course implies much more than merely knowing their name and recognizing their face. Gill fairly turns it around and claims that the members know their pastor so that he may know them. The pastor can only do his work of laboring among them, leading them and admonishing them if he knows them well. The members of the church need to freely converse with their pastor so that he can know them well enough to adequately teach and direct them in spiritual matters.
To esteem them highlyThis has to do with their submission to him. To see the Pastor’s role as one of importance, to honor him as a man dedicated to the study of the Word so that he might more faithfully provide mentor ship and counsel, to esteem his work as a high one even if his personality is not agreeable to an particular individual; these are things the Bible beseeches us to do
I believe these two actions will lead to one consequence; peace among the members of the church.
It is telling that the Bible makes so many references to unity in so many different epistles to so many different churches. Unity is not and has never been the natural thing. It is always something that requires purposeful effort.
Here we find a significant key to such unity.
