Proverbs 31:29 (KJV)
Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.
Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.
The chapter begins by informing us that these are the words the king’s mother taught him. I see in the chapter:
Instructions concerning the character of the King.Perhaps no one is more qualified to speak to a king about his character than his mother. Certainly there is no one he is more likely to listen to.
Instructions concerning the character of the virtuous woman. This gives the king an idea of the sort of woman he should be looking to marry.
Instructions on how to treat her once he has found her.(Vs 29)
It is to this I direct my thoughts. The words are hypothetical, as we are not told he has found such a woman but only that these are the qualities of the virtuous woman. As such, it is an instruction every husband can “take home.” There indeed are many women who have done virtuously. The one God has wed us to should be made to feel that, so far as her husband is concerned, she excels them all.
