John 18:5 (KJV)
They answered him, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus saith unto them, I am he. And Judas also, which betrayed him, stood with them.
They answered him, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus saith unto them, I am he. And Judas also, which betrayed him, stood with them.
How quickly people change. Judas had spent three years as one of the closest of Jesus’ followers. He had:
- Witnessed His miracles,
- Heard His messages,
- Seen His compassion
Why, this very night, Jesus had dipped the sop and given it to Judas.
Now he stands with the soldiers who have come to take Him.
In over thirty years of ministry I have learned this is not an uncommon event. Recently a family left our church because of a disagreement. Their loyalties lay with another pastor, one with whom I have doctrinal disagreement. Though they had attended our church for many months and had recently joined, when I broached those doctrines where those disagreements are found, they were gone. But then, they aren’t really gone because they had made connections and now feel a need to express their disagreements publicly. It’s not enough for them to stand somewhere other than where we do; they choose to stand with those who would damage Christ’s church.
Judas eventually regretted his choice.
It would be best if we stayed beside the Lord and the thing He loves. We will never regret that.
