2 Kings 13:5 (KJV) A Promise To Come

2 Kings 13:5 (KJV)
(And the LORD gave Israel a saviour, so that they went out from under the hand of the Syrians: and the children of Israel dwelt in their tents, as beforetime.
What evidence of the grace of God is noted here! These are wicked men who have:
  • Rebelled against the authority God had ordained for them
  • Rebelled against the house God had given for their worship and
  • Rebelled against God Himself in worshiping idols
Still, the Lord gave Israel a Saviour. This of course is not referring to a spiritual salvation but deliverance from an even more wicked kingdom. This salvation was such that the people were free to dwell where they pleased and at peace enough to dwell there in tents rather than fortifications.
Is there some application we may find concerning Spiritual salvation in the passage?
  • Salvation restores us to the original relationship between God and Adam
  • Salvation is available to the most rebellious among us if we will but ask for it
  • Salvation is a liberating work
  • Salvation is a peace bringing work
It’s not a perfect picture, that is certain. But it does provide hints of a promise to come.
