Jeremiah 5:24-25 (KJV)
Neither say they in their heart, Let us now fear the LORD our God, that giveth rain, both the former and the latter, in his season: he reserveth unto us the appointed weeks of the harvest.
Your iniquities have turned away these things, and your sins have withholden good things from you.

God told the Jews that their sins had withheld good things from them. Most people today don’t like to think in these terms but they make sense, at least in the world of reason. I think I see three realms in which this may be applied:
In the natural realm
God implies this in verse 24. He is the one who sends the early and the latter rains. He is the one who establishes the growing and harvest seasons. These good things are regular but they are not always certain. There are years without rain and seasons that get cut short by foul weather.

In the spiritual realm
This, I think, is implied simply by the fact that it is God who says it. What good things do we lose when our sin is that most known of us? Certainly:

- Our relationship with God
- Our ability to pray intimately
- Our power to reach others for Christ
In the social realm
Evil action, obnoxious spirit and carnal attitudes impact our interactions with others. Good things like a loving marriage, happy children and gainful employment may all be stunted if not completely denied us due to our sin.

God’s Word gives a solid, spiritual and practical warning against sin. Living in it withholds good things.
